When a homeowner in Cordova, Tennessee reached out because they could not afford a whole new shower with new door frames and glass, Brigman Home Services planned a cost-conscious shower remodel that kept the existing door hardware while replacing the worn parts of the shower. Next, we addressed the base. We removed the old pan and replaced the drain, then repaired sections of the subfloor that needed attention. With a solid substrate in place, we installed a new shower pan and confirmed the drain alignment before moving on to build the curb.
We built a new curb to the proper height and thickness. At the same time we reused the cultured marble trim that had been removed, making sure our measurements matched the old layout so the existing shower door and frame could be reinstalled without modifying the trim or door fit.
To prepare the walls for tile, we installed new Durock backer board and sealed all seams. Proper backer installation and sealing protect the structure from moisture and give the tile a stable surface to adhere to.
Once the Durock was in place, we installed new tile and completed the grout work. Tile and grout were applied to match the planned aesthetic and to ensure waterproofing in the wet areas of the shower. Grout joints were finished cleanly so the final look was neat and functional.
As part of the plumbing updates we installed a new shower valve. Replacing the valve helped improve the shower's performance and brought the plumbing up to a reliable standard while keeping the exterior fixtures and door in place.
By reusing the cultured marble trim and the existing shower door and glass, and by carefully measuring during each step, we were able to avoid the expense of buying a whole new door assembly. That kept the project within the homeowner's budget while still delivering a renewed shower with a new pan, new tile, and updated plumbing.
